DroboShare: Easy Network Backups

December 11, 2009December 11, 2009Uncategorized4 Comments

I’ve mentioned in the past how useful the Drobo hard drive-based data storage system is, and now DroboShare ($199) brings that same ease of use to your network-based backups.

DroboShare includes a Gigabit Ethernet interface along with USB 2.0, and connects to your Drobo ($399) so everyone on your network can backup their data.

The Drobo holds up to four hot-swappable 3.5-inch SATA hard drives, monitors each drive’s health, and lets you increase storage by changing drives on the fly. A single Drobo holds up to 16TB of data, and DroboShare lets you gang them together for up to 32TB of storage.

Have you seen how far prices have come down on hard drives? Right now, several online retailers are offering a 1 terabyte Seagate Barracuda or Western Digital hard drive for around $80 shipped. That’s 1,000 GB for $80.

Is it time for you to upgrade?
