EPUB 3 is Coming!
The EPUB 3 specification for electronic books and other publications should be finalized later this summer.
EPUB is an XML and Web Standards based format developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). EPUB 3 is a major revision of the standard that aligns EPUB with HTML5 and adds support for video, audio, interactivity, vertical writing and other global language capabilities, improved accessibility, MathML, and styling and layout enhancements.
Look for EPUB 3 reader software to appear in 2012.
(IDPF is a not for profit organization with over 200 members, comprising publishers, vendors, libraries and organizations from over twenty-five different countries. For more information, visit http://idpf.org)
Jeff Gamet is a contributing editor for Design Tools Monthly, the executive summary of graphic design news. He is also the morning editor and reviews editor for The Mac Observer and iPodObserver.com, and contributing writer for Layers Magazine and Photoshop User. He writes the InBrief column for InDesign Magazine, and is the author of “The Designer’s Guide to Mac OS X,” from Peachpit Press
When Jeff isn’t writing about the graphic design world, he’s talking about it on the Design Tools Weekly podcast with co-host Jay Nelson. He also talks about Apple and the Mac world every week on The Mac Observer’s Apple Weekly Report.
Jeff studies, tests and reviews new software and technologies for the Macintosh community as well as the design and print industries. He is a former Pre-press specialist, and has nearly 25 years experience with computer technology. Jeff trains, lectures and consults on techniques for more efficiently using Mac OS X in creative environments throughout the country.
In the rare moments when he can get away from his MacBook Pro, Jeff spends his time climbing and biking in the Colorado mountains.
We have several learn to draw titles that need to be converted from QXP to epub. Any tips on how to do this in a simple way. Quark has gotten so much better and easier to use, but most of our titles were created on earlier releases, and the task seems daunting.
Thanks you for any advice you can give us to make this project flow smoother.

Also, this story may help understand the basic workflow: http://www.planetquark.com/?p=7770. It’s named “The Shortest Path to ePub and Kindle from QuarkXPress”.
