iPad App Created with QuarkXPress 9 Now Available on App Store
The BLAG Deluxe App, Developed with the Innovative Digital Publishing Functionality of QuarkXPress 9, is Now Available on Apple’s App Store
London – May 9, 2011 – Quark announced today the availability on the Apple® Store of BLAG Deluxe App for iPad, an example of the digital publishing capabilities of QuarkXPress® 9. The app has been designed entirely in QuarkXPress and combines rich, interactive content created by BLAG’s founders Sally A. and Sarah J. Edwards. QuarkXPress allowed Sally, the design and art director, to seamlessly integrate videos, slideshows, and audio recordings with precision typography, exclusive content, and Sarah’s high-end photography that readers of the print edition have come to love and expect.
“BLAG is a premium publication and iPad Apps are a new revolution in publishing. The iPad device makes this the perfect product and direction for us given the exclusive and custom content we create,” explained Sally A. Edwards, Co-founder of BLAG. “I’ve been loyal to Quark for years and when I found out there was the option to create the App with the software, I looked no further. Having worked with QuarkXPress for so long, there weren’t many new areas to get to grips with, so this allowed me to get more creative and really go for it with custom design, pushing certain rules aside.”
Sally A. Edwards continued, “Creating the iPad app with QuarkXPress has been a fantastic experience and will open BLAG right up to a huge market. It was great to be able to deliver something that is still ‘very BLAG’ without compromising our design and retaining full control throughout the creation process.”
Gavin Drake, Vice President of Marketing at Quark, said, “For creative professionals and independent publishers like Sally and Sarah at BLAG, QuarkXPress 9 will be the perfect tool to publish to the iPad quickly and affordably. QuarkXPress 9 will allow designers to create customized apps in a familiar environment, using their print design skills and without having to hand over the project to programmers.”
The BLAG Deluxe App is available on the App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/blag-deluxe-app/id430854124?mt=8&ls=1.

BLAG began as a fanzine edited and published by twins Sally A. and Sarah J. Edwards while the two were students at an art school in the midlands in England. Design and Art Direction is handled by Sally; Sarah is the Photographer. The duo quickly transformed the publication into a luxe glossy based in London known for its uncompromising quality, innovative spirit, and unconventional business model. Lauded for its cutting-edge influence and access to luminaries such as the Beastie Boys, OutKast, Adrien Brody, N*E*R*D, James McAvoy, and Queens of the Stone Age, BLAG earned a cult-like following and a reputation for repositioning brands via creative concepts in film, photography, and architecture to opinion forming launch events and as opening DJs for the likes of N*E*R*D and the Foo Fighters. BLAG continues to evolve with Sally and Sarah at its helm, expanding into the digital marketplace, while adding audio and visual producing, editing and directing credits to their repertoire. Since its inception almost 20 years ago, BLAG has been and continues to be a point of reference for sophisticated rebels and savvy individuals.
