Hide the White Background

Here’s a quick and easy way to drop the white background out of a scanned black-and-white image or screen capture, so you can add it to an existing image in Photoshop.

Just place the scan on its own layer, then change that layer’s blend mode to Multiply. The white background disappears.

This also works with imported PDF files… a great trick for compositing a text document into a Photoshop image.
