You don’t have to settle for the default names QuarkXPress gives your Master Pages — “A-Master A” is less useful than “FM-Front Matter” or “IND-Index”. To rename a master page, just double-click its name in the Document Layout or Pages palette.
It’s helpful to begin the name with a three-character prefix, followed by a hyphen, because XPress will then display your prefix on the page icons in the palette (as above).
