New Postage Rates on May 11

The United States Postal Service will increase rates on May 11 by two cents per First Class Mail stamp, to 44 cents. The price of each additional ounce will remain unchanged at 17 cents.

The USPS reported that mail volume in Q1 declined 9.3% compared to the same quarter last year, the eighth consecutive quarter of volume decline. Postmaster John E. Potter recently told Congress the USPS may need to eliminate Tuesday or Saturday service in the summer months when volume tends to be less.
