Better PDF Names from QuarkXPress
If you’re not happy with the names assigned by QuarkXPress 6/7/8 to your exported PDFs, you can control that by choosing QuarkXPress> Preferences> PDF, and then choose a default naming convention:
- Project_Layout.pdf
- Layout_Project.pdf
- Project.pdf
- Layout.pdf
(Note: in some versions, the dialog box mistakenly shows : instead of _)
Jay Nelson is the editorial director of PlanetQuark.com, and the editor and publisher of Design Tools Monthly. He’s also the author of the QuarkXPress 8 and QuarkXPress 7 training titles at Lynda.com, as well as the training videos Quark includes in the box with QuarkXPress 7 . In addition, Jay writes regularly for Macworld and Photoshop User magazines and speaks at industry events.
I wouldn’t say that the are better names, just different. Hopefully someday they will let the pdf be the same name as the .qxd file and save everyone time.
Fritz: that’s exactly what the “Project.PDF” option does. It names the PDF according to the name of the file.
wow, I never realized that. Thanks Jay, I can’t believe I never knew that.
Hey, glad to help. I probably should have explained that in the tip.
