In QuarkXPress 8, you can “escape” from editing text, by pressing the Esc key on your keyboard.
Because the tools are now “sticky” (once you select one, it stays active so you can create additional similar items), this puts you back where you can create new text boxes.
This trick also works with picture boxes.
