Use Synchronized Items Instead of Master Pages (for some things…)

Quark’s Joe Root wrote an excellent tutorial on using Synchronized items in place of items on Master Pages. Think about it: Master Pages let you have carbon copies of items on all the pages based on those Master Pages. But Synchronized items let you synchronize any combination of attributes: text, picture, text attributes, box attributes, etc. So in a way, Synchronized items are more flexible than Master Page items, yet with all the Master-Page goodness of “change once, change all”…

And get this: if you combine Synchronized items into a Composition Zone, they can be shared across multiple Layouts, unlike Master Pages…
