In my post about Apple’s update to Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update Improves OpenType Use in QuarkXPress, I noted that the update claimed to “improve compatibility when using OpenType fonts in QuarkXPress.”
Well, I just had to follow up on that, to find out what exactly was improved. So I asked Quark to ask Apple, and this is what they said:
“With its most recent update to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Apple incorporated some enhancements included with Leopard affecting how some OpenType resources are cached. This change improves compatibility with QuarkXPress.”
Translation: Apple fixed some OpenType cache stuff in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and found a way to include those improvements in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). The 10.4.11 update adds that improvement.
Okay, I’ll take it…
