One feature I’ve heard people wish for in QuarkXPress 7 and 8 is to check spelling as you type. The solution is available in a $50 XTension. AthenaSoft’s AutoCorrectXT 3.3 is an XTension for QuarkXPress 7 or 8 that adds an auto-correct feature. It can also correct user-defined typing errors.
In addition, the XTension lets you create “boilerplate” text — words or phrases that can be inserted by typing a few characters. It supports English, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Norwegian. An Arabic version is available for $95.
For more information or to purchase AutoCorrectXT, see the AthenaSoft website.

Tried version 2 of AutoCorrectXT and Quark would crash when selecting text – disabling the xtension resolved it (this could be due to an incompatibility between that version and Quark 8). I will likely try AutoCorrectXT 3 because spell checking on-the-fly is very appealing as an added measure of protection should I forget to manally check spelling before running a print job. Would love to see this functionality built into Quark.
