In QuarkXPress 7, you can create and apply a new color directly from the Measurements palette, which saves you a trip to the Colors palette. Just click and hold on the Color chooser in any Measurements palette tab where it appears (Frame, Box, Text, Drop Shadow, etc.).

At the top of the list of named colors is New… Select that to open the Edit Color dialog, where you can create and name a new color.
