When several items or objects in a page layout overlap, invariably the one that you want to edit is sitting behind another. Luckily, QuarkXPress provides a simple method for selecting objects behind other objects.
In QuarkXPress, just Command-Opt-Shift click on the item that’s in front of the others (Win: Ctrl-Alt-Shift). With each subsequent click, QuarkXPress selects the next item further back in the stack until it reaches the back — the next click selects the front item again. When an obscured item is selected, you can bring it to the front using the F5 key.

Hi,
I realize that the post has been around for a long time, but it was exactly the answer that I needed and was quick to find.
Thank you very much,

Hi,
I am trying to select small objects close to each other over many objects. The cursor after an object is selected changes in to a rotate icon or stertch icon and I am unable to select the object close by.
How can I force to icon to change to the arrow icon.

I know exactly what you mean: when an item is small on your screen, the handles around the item seem to swamp the clickable area of that object. What I do in this situation is simply to zoom in very closely to the small items, make my adjustments, and zoom straight back out again. This is less troublesome than you might think, once you get the hang of the zooming shortcuts: Ctrl+Shift+drag to zoom in to a specific area, then Cmd+0, Cmd+1 or Cmd+Opt+click to zoom out (that’s Fit In Window, 100% or 200%, respectively).
